Royal Opening of 6th GMC Zhabto Inspires Community

Their Majesties The King and The Gyaltsuen, along with Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel and Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck, honored the opening of the 6th GMC Zhabto, a volunteer initiative in Gelephu Mindfulness City. This event marks a significant community effort involving diverse participants, including those from overseas, to engage in environmental and developmental projects.

A Royal Beginning ๐ŸŒŸ

The royal presence at the GMC Zhabto programme highlights its importance. This initiative, running from April 10 to 14, unites approximately 8,100 volunteers from various sectors, including religious communities, government bodies, and private enterprises. Notably, 157 Bhutanese residing in Australia have returned to participate, showcasing global support for Bhutan's sustainable development efforts.

Volunteer Work: A Community United ๐Ÿ’ช

During the programme, volunteers are tasked with crucial activities, such as:

  • Clearing habitat exclusion areas
  • Removing invasive species
  • Land development at central park zones
  • Bush clearing at Riverside and Wetland Parks

These efforts aim to enhance the natural environment and prepare sites for future cultural and tourism landmarks, including the 108 Jangchu Chorten.

Visionary Projects in the Heart of Bhutan ๐Ÿ”

A standout feature of the event is the future development of an 18-hole golf course at Barshong. His Majesty The King, accompanied by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak and others, visited the proposed site. This golf course, designed as a non-profit, promises to direct proceeds towards Bhutanese community projects, reinforcing the ethos of sustainable development in Bhutan.

Cultural and Environmental Impact ๐ŸŒฟ

The GMC Zhabto programme is not just about immediate tasks but also about fostering a long-term cultural and environmental impact. By involving a broad spectrum of volunteers, the programme promotes a sense of ownership and responsibility toward Bhutan's rich natural heritage. Such initiatives are crucial as Bhutan continues to balance modernization with ecological preservation.

Looking Ahead: The Future of GMC Zhabto ๐ŸŒโœจ

As the 6th GMC Zhabto programme progresses, it sets a precedent for future initiatives. The success of this event could inspire similar volunteer-driven projects across Bhutan, driving national development while preserving cultural and environmental integrity.

In conclusion, Their Majesties' involvement underscores the importance of collective action in Bhutan's journey towards sustainability and community empowerment. With projects like these, Bhutan continues to shine as a beacon of sustainable development and cultural preservation.
