Royal Ceremony Unveils Druk Ugyen Samye Ling

Their Majesties The King and The Gyaltsuen recently graced the groundbreaking ceremony of Druk Ugyen Samye Ling at Dawathang in Chhuzergang Gewog. This significant event marks the beginning of a vital spiritual project under the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) initiative.

A New Spiritual Landmark 🌟

Druk Ugyen Samye Ling, inspired by the historic Samye Monastery in Tibet, is set to become a major spiritual landmark in Bhutan. Under the patronage of Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, this monastery will enshrine sacred relics and house 100,000 statues of Guru Ugyen Norlha, symbolizing both spiritual and material prosperity.

Architectural and Spiritual Significance ✨

Spanning 25 acres at Dawathang, the structure will measure 70 by 70 meters and rise to about 30 meters high. This architectural marvel reflects both symbolic and spiritual significance, forming a core part of eleven spiritual initiatives approved by His Majesty The King.

These initiatives aim to blend Bhutan’s rich spiritual heritage with modern development, creating a distinctive model of growth that also embraces innovation and technology.

A Gathering of Devotees 🌍

In anticipation of the ceremony, Dawathang became a hub for thousands of devotees from across the country. A 10-day spiritual program commenced on April 1, featuring rituals like the Tendrel Nyesel, presided over by Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche. This sacred prayer, tied to Guru Rinpoche’s teachings, aimed to bless the land and remove obstacles before construction.

Connecting to a Spiritual Legacy 💫

The spiritual program featured the conferment of the Zhungchen Chusum, or the Thirteen Great Root Texts, believed to create auspicious conditions for significant undertakings. This connection to Samye’s spiritual lineage adds depth to the project, linking past traditions with future aspirations.

Following the ceremony, many devotees remained at the site to participate in the sixth GMC volunteer program. These volunteers, coming from various dzongkhags, reflect a collective commitment to the national vision of integrating spirituality with development.
